{"id":19093,"date":"2010-11-03T08:56:55","date_gmt":"2010-11-03T14:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/?p=19093"},"modified":"2010-11-03T09:39:54","modified_gmt":"2010-11-03T15:39:54","slug":"colorado-election-wrap-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2010\/11\/03\/colorado-election-wrap-up.html","title":{"rendered":"Colorado election wrap-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/coloradoflag.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-19095\" title=\"coloradoflag\" src=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/coloradoflag-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/26\/why-im-voting-for-michael-bennet-and-john-hickenlooper.html\">On the major state offices<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>John Hickenlooper <\/strong>(D) won handily over Tom Tancredo (ACP) and Dan Maes (R) to be the next governor of the state.\u00a0 That&#8217;s &#8230; a good thing.\u00a0 On the other hand, the GOP seems to have taken back one, if not both, houses of the state legislature, and many of the other state offices also look like they are going GOP. Hick may be feeling pretty lonely this term, after the euphoria wears off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Bennet <\/strong>(D) is still running neck-and-neck with Ken Buck (R) to keep his Senate seat.\u00a0 Latest numbers I see have him at 47.4% vs 47.0% for Buck.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not a huge fan of Bennet, but Buck is a nut (and, of course, would be another Republican in the Senate).\u00a0 Many of the uncounted ballots are from Denver and Boulder, so they might trend toward Bennet.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/13\/colorado-ballot-propositions-2010-the-ugly-three.html\">On the &#8220;Ugly Three&#8221;<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendments 60 and 61, and Prop 101<\/strong>, were soundly defeated by the voters of Colorado, with decisive (70-75%) margins.\u00a0 That doesn&#8217;t solve the state&#8217;s fiscal crisis, by any means, but it keeps it from getting much, much worse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/15\/colorado-ballot-propositions-2010-the-other-six.html\">On the other Colorado ballot measures<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendment 62: Personhood<\/strong>:\u00a0 Rejected (again) soundly (again) by over 70% of the voters.\u00a0 Will they keep trying?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendment 63: No Obamacare<\/strong>: Rejected by just over 50%.\u00a0 It was meaningless, but symbolic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendment P: Who Runs Games of Chance?<\/strong>: This would have shifted around some of the state responsibilities in a more rational manner.\u00a0 Rejected by over 60%, perhaps because there was no case that anything was really broken.\u00a0 This was my one &#8220;loss&#8221; on the ballot measures, but hardly anything I&#8217;ll lose sleep over.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendment Q: Moving the seat of government in a disaster<\/strong>: Won by almost 60%. I voted for it, but it was mostly just kind of common sense, not a huge battle of principle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendment R: Exempting lesser use of public lands from property taxes<\/strong>:\u00a0 Lost by over 60%.
