A bright, shiny, new Green Lantern<\/a><\/em> trailer is out.<\/p>\n

<\/param><\/param><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n

There’s a lot of good here — the fist, and pretty much all the green energy bits (and, if I haven’t mentioned it before, kudos to WB for being willing to have their logo thematically screwed around with in movies). The aliens look pretty good, too — Abin Sur, Sinestro, Tomar Re, Kilowog … The suit isn’t great, but it’s not bad, either.<\/p>\n

But beyond the shiny, I have my doubts. So Hal isn’t “without fear”? That’s a fairly significant departure. But it’s in keeping with what looks like is the weakest part of the film (to judge, possibly unfairly, by the trailer): Hal is kind of a sketchy jerk here.<\/p>\n

Now, Hal Jordan being a jerk isn’t new. He’s often been a stick-up-ass jerk (since the Denny O’Neil days, at least). And in the “Emerald Dawn” miniseries, he’s not particularly colored in pre-ring glory. Still, what little I’ve seen of Ryan Reynolds’ performance here as Hal the Slacker doesn’t impress me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
