This comparison of the “Why isn’t Heimdall white?” vs’ “Why isn’t Aang asian?” controversies is very thought provoking. (And, as an aside, my “ideal” is for the various races and cultures in America to mingle whilst appreciating differences along the lines of Italian-Americans appreciating their heritage vs. Irish-Americans … not resentfully, but with a touch of proprietary pride, a scosh of rivalry, some particular attributes and touchstones, but recognizing, bottom-line, the American identity.
