  1. The Egypt Protests<\/a> – Amazing pictures. As to what’s happening … Mubarak’s government has been, from a pragmatic, realpolitik perspective, useful amidst tinpot tyrants, petrocrats, and Islamist extremists in the Middle East. That Egypt has managed to coexist with Israel is a good thing. On the other hand, Mubarak is an autocrat, and not all that beneficent of one, as well as a budding dynast. I do not want to see the Egyptian government replaced with some worst-case scenarios, but I do want the citizenry to be able to govern themselves. If that means choosing leaders poorly, that’s still their prerogative, if America’s own founding principles mean anything.<\/li>\n
