Jim DeMint forgets we have access to Google<\/a> – I think it’s an open question whether the GOP’s breakneck lurching to the Right has been because of an authentic change in hearts and minds, or as a calculated policy to stir up the extreme base and in opposition the Obama Administration no matter how silly and inconsistent it makes them.<\/b><\/li>\n
  2. The DCCC owes Paul Ryan a thank-you note<\/a> – There’s still many more months … but it will be interesting to see how this plays out into 2012.<\/li>\n
  3. John Yoo becomes a caricature of himself<\/a> – Yeeeeesh.<\/li>\n
  4. Is France Right to Ban the Burqa? : Dispatches from the Culture Wars<\/a> – Like Ed, I object to the mindset around burqas (and what it says about women, men, and the relationship between the two). But the same can be said for any religious or<\/b> social imposition of dress codes (including clothing at all) or other social controls on the behavior of men and women. If people choose to voluntarily adhere to such, I would tread carefully before telling them they can’t. (That doesn’t remove the need of government, with at least some accommodation, to get photo IDs.)<\/li>\n
  5. Pelosi’s Hypocrisy on Osama<\/a> – Certainly OBL was used for political gameplaying all over the spectrum. That said, I’m glad he’s gone, and let’s move on to the next problem.<\/li>\n
  6. What’s high school for?<\/a> – Certainly all lessons (and many values) worth learning. Alas, hard to test for, which means it won’t suit our eductation system or our politicians.<\/li>\n
  7. Nuclear Fusion In Four Years? Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Is Betting On It<\/a> – I’ve been a fan of fusion as a long-term goal since my old high school debate days, and would love to see this happen (though I don’t give it high chances). Fusion plants do, btw, produce some low-level radioactive waste (the actual chambers themselves), but nothing like the spent fuel issue of fission reactors (or, for that matter, the ecological output of coal mining and burning, etc.).<\/li>\n
