Will Perry publicly (not to Bill Donohue on the phone) repudiate Jeffress’ statements? What will Jeffress do about it?<\/li>\n

Fischer: The Tea Party Ended Slavery In America<\/a> – Fischer is correct when he says that “evangelical Christians” were leaders in the pre-Civil War abolitionist movement, the results of the Great Awakening earlier in the century — though there were many other prominent figures then and in the preceding decades and century who were not<\/b> evangelical Christians who also played a major role. And there were, of course, many Christian leaders, the same sorts of Baptists and Methodists whose actions are lauded by Fischer, who were in the South and who claimed their Christian beliefs and a reading of the Bible supported<\/b> slavery. And, of course, “evangelical Christian” in the mid-19th Century has very little to do with “Tea Party” of the early 21s Century. And, of course, in none of these debates was it ever framed as supporting or opposing “Sharia Law” or Islam.
