At each one, we attracted over 500 of our neighbors, had speeches from rabbis, ministers, celebrities, elected officials and just plain citizens, including Cuban and Iranian immigrants. We sought and obtained police and city permits, rented porta-potties and umbrellas and a good sound system.” Well, good heavens, Pat, clearly you and your Tea Party types are far more patriotic and concerned with the health of the nation than those “rebellious, raucous, often profane and filthy, at times illegal, angry and purposeless mob scenes.” I mean, they couldn’t even be bothered to rent porta-potties! Damned, dirty hippies!<\/li>\n

I certainly cannot say that Jesus would join the #OWS movement, but if he were in lower Manhattan, I sincerely doubt they would be the first folks in the vicinity he would “take a whip” to.<\/li>\n

Convincing your daughter to sign a “purity contract” at 9, or 11, or 13, is setting up everyone for heartache and broken promises. I have my own ideas about how I’d like to see my own daughter’s life and relationships and sexual experiences go in the coming decade — but I wouldn’t dream of trying to sign her into a guild contract over them. I’d rather simply try to stay in relationship with her, make my own feelings known (and hear hers), and help her along the way.<\/li>\n
