{"id":24132,"date":"2011-11-29T22:38:59","date_gmt":"2011-11-30T05:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/29\/in-god-we-all-trust-or-else.html"},"modified":"2011-11-29T23:43:57","modified_gmt":"2011-11-30T06:43:57","slug":"in-god-we-all-trust-or-else","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/29\/in-god-we-all-trust-or-else.html","title":{"rendered":"In God We All Trust, Or Else"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The courts have allowed mention of God in official governmental items such as our money and our national motto and the Pledge of Allegiance under the principle of &quot;ceremonial deism&quot; &#8212; the idea that it&#39;s not really religion, but more of a tribal traditional sort of thing.  Which ought to give anyone who takes such statements seriously the willies &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; but too many other actions demonstrate that a lot of people feel differently, that they see &quot;In God We Trust,&quot; for example, not just as a national <i>booyah<\/i> chant, but a real statement of religious fervor.  Such as Georgia, which now has a bill going through its statehouse that would change license  from having the issuing county on them (with the option of someone paying for a &quot;In God We Trust&quot; sticker <i>if they so chose<\/i> ) to having all license plates with the religious motto unless someone wants to pay extra for a county sticker.<\/p>\n<p>This is not, of course, a sign of mutual, communal grunting, but an assertive religious statement.
