Even as the evidence has solidified, the party politicians have backtracked, flip-flopped, or hardened their positions.<\/p>\n<p>And the answer is very simple, as Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity, the Koch-founded Super-PAC explains: <i>\u201cIf you look at where the situation was three years ago and where it is today, there\u2019s been a dramatic turnaround. Most of these candidates have figured out that the science has become political. We\u2019ve made great headway. What it means for candidates on the Republican side is, if you \u2026 buy into green energy or you play footsie on this issue, you do so at your political peril. The vast majority of people who are involved in the [Republican] nominating process\u2014the conventions and the primaries\u2014are suspect of the science. And that\u2019s our influence. Groups like Americans for Prosperity have done it.&quot;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&quot;Science has become political.&quot;  Of course, it hasn&#39;t but <i>following science, when it inconveniences the Kochs and others<\/i> has become political. Which is disgusting, dangerous, and while I have no doubt it will rate as one of the most shameful chapters in GOP history (if not one of the final), it hurts every man, woman, and child on the planet.
