While serious work-centered shows (both reality shows and stylized scripted procedurals), along with reality competitions, tend to draw conservatives.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, I do like <em>The Daily Show<\/em> and <em>Colbert Report<\/em>. \u00a0Patrick Jayne<em> (The Mentalist)<\/em> is arguably a morally murky anti-hero, as are the protagonists on <em>Leverage<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On other hand, I love <em>Law &amp; Order<\/em> (US or UK), which is certainly a &#8220;stylized scripted procedural.&#8221; \u00a0There are some reality shows (around home improvement) and reality competitions (<em>Iron Chef<\/em>, etc.) I enjoy watching.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe we better go to specifics from the article noting shows in particular that I <span style=\"color: #339966;\">like<\/span> or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">dislike<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>LIBERAL-DEMOCRAT FAVORITES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>The Colbert Report<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Comedy Central): Well, of course.\u00a0<em>As you might expect<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>30 Rock<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Parks and Recreation<\/strong>\u00a0(NBC): I don&#8217;t watch comedies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The View<\/strong>\u00a0(ABC): While &#8220;s<em>hows that skew female tend to do better among Dems,&#8221; <\/em>I really don&#8217;t like<em> The View<\/em> (or any talk show of that sort).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Glee<\/strong>\u00a0(Fox) &#8211; Never watched it. Never had the desire to.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Modern Family<\/strong>\u00a0(ABC): Never watched it. Never had the desire to.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/strong>\u00a0(FX): Never heard of it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treme<\/strong>\u00a0(HBO): I don&#8217;t watch HBO. \u00a0We don&#8217;t subscribe to HBO. Reading about it, I have no desire to watch it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cougar Town<\/strong>\u00a0(ABC): Um, seriously no desire to watch.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The Late Show With David Letterman<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson<\/strong>(CBS): Though <em>&#8220;Dems favor late-night programming&#8221; <\/em>I don&#8217;t.\u00a0I&#8217;ve never cared for late night variety\/talk shows, and generally find them a very weak bang for the buck.<\/li>\n<li>Also in the mix:\u00a0<strong>The Soup<\/strong>\u00a0(E!),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Aqua Teen Hunger Force<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Adult Swim),\u00a0<strong>Raising Hope<\/strong>\u00a0(Fox),<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Saturday Night Live<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(NBC),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The Office<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(NBC),<strong>\u00a0Project Runway <\/strong>(Lifetime), <strong>Shameless<\/strong> (Showtime), <strong>Parenthood<\/strong> (NBC), <strong>Conan<\/strong> (TBS): Even the one here I have, on occasion, watched (SNL) is nothing I bother to record or go out of my way for; I probably haven&#8217;t seen it live in a decade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CONSERVATIVE-REPUBLICAN FAVORITES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Swamp Loggers<\/strong>\u00a0(Discovery) and\u00a0<strong>Top Shot<\/strong>\u00a0(History): It seems &#8220;<em>gritty documentary-style work-related reality shows on cable index really strongly with conservative Republicans.&#8221; <\/em>They really don&#8217;t with me.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The Bachelor<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(ABC): I loathe this show, its concept, its execution, its very existence.\u00a0<em>They also tend to gravitate toward broadcast reality competition shows<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Castle<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(ABC): Whew! This also &#8220;<em>ranks fairly high among Dems, too<\/em>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Mythbusters<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(Discovery): Huh. Well, I enjoy it.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy<\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0<strong>American Pickers<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Pawn Stars<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Swamp People<\/strong>\u00a0(History): I haven&#8217;t watched the History Channel since it stopped being about History.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Middle<\/strong>\u00a0(ABC): Though this \u00a0<em>&#8220;does well among libs, too,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0I&#8217;ve never watched it. \u00a0Or heard of it.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The Tonight Show With Jay Leno<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(NBC): See same response to the Liberal late-night shows &#8230;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The Biggest Loser<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(NBC): See <em>The Bachelor<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Hawaii Five-O,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NCIS<\/strong>,<\/span>\u00a0<strong>The Mentalist<\/strong><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(CBS): I already commented on <em>The Mentalist<\/em> above. \u00a0My perverse fondness for <em>Five-0<\/em> is discussed elseblog.<\/li>\n<li>Also:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Dancing With the Stars<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0results show (ABC),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Man vs. Wild<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Discovery),\u00a0<strong>Auction Kings<\/strong>(Discovery),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Wheel of Fortune<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(syndi),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Top Gear<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(BBC America).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So those are the preferences &#8212; how about the averse?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN\u00a0<em>LEAST<\/em>\u00a0FAVORITES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Weeds<\/strong>\u00a0(Showtime): Well, we don&#8217;t have Showtime, either, and no particular desire to.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>The Colbert Report<\/strong><\/span>(Comedy Central)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>South Park<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Comedy Central): I&#8217;ve never found it nearly as witty as it pretends to be.<\/li>\n<li><strong>TMZ<\/strong>\u00a0(syndication)<\/li>\n<li><strong>General Hospital<\/strong>\u00a0(ABC)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family Guy<\/strong>\u00a0(Fox): I feel mixed over this one &#8212; there are large chunks of the humor I like, but I&#8217;m just not a fan (and don&#8217;t watch it at all regularly).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Dexter<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(Showtime): \u00a0I thought it was good, not great (watched on DVD).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jersey Shore<\/strong>\u00a0(MTV): Everything I have seem about this show seems like nothing I&#8217;d want to actually watch.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>The Walking Dead<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(AMC): \u00a0Good show. \u00a0But not something we watch.<\/li>\n<li>Also:\u00a0<strong>Divorce Court<\/strong>\u00a0(syndi),\u00a0<strong>The Big C<\/strong>\u00a0(Showtime),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Let\u2019s Make a Deal<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(CBS),\u00a0<strong>Bridezillas<\/strong>(WE),\u00a0<strong>My Fair Wedding With David Tutera<\/strong>\u00a0(WE),\u00a0<strong>Don\u2019t Forget the Lyrics<\/strong>\u00a0(VH1).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>LIBERAL DEMOCRAT\u00a0<em>LEAST<\/em>\u00a0FAVORITES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Swamp Loggers<\/strong>\u00a0(Discovery)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Dog the Bounty Hunter<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(A&amp;E) and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>COPS<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(syndication): I find Dog to be an awful person. \u00a0I find the &#8220;slice of life&#8221; in <em>COPS<\/em>, though, to be fascinating, and an interesting look at some aspects of being part of the police.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Ultimate Fighter<\/strong>\u00a0(Spike TV)<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Price Is Right<\/strong>\u00a0(CBS)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>CSI: Miami<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(CBS): I don&#8217;t watch it at all regularly, but the eps I&#8217;ve watched I&#8217;ve enjoyed.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Kitchen Nightmares<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Fox): I&#8217;ve never watched this on Fox, just on various food channels. \u00a0Is it the same, with Ramsay?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secret Life of the American Teenager<\/strong>\u00a0(ABC Family)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Ghost Hunters<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Syfy),\u00a0<strong>Ghost Adventures<\/strong>\u00a0(Travel Channel) and\u00a0<strong>The Haunted<\/strong>\u00a0(Animal Planet): Gag me.<\/li>\n<li>Also:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Operation Repo<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(TruTV),\u00a0<strong>Swamp People<\/strong>\u00a0(History),\u00a0<strong>Hardcore Pawn<\/strong>\u00a0(TruTV),\u00a0<strong>River Monsters<\/strong>\u00a0(Animal Planet),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Deadliest Catch<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Discovery),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(History),\u00a0<strong>Storm Chasers<\/strong>\u00a0(Discovery),\u00a0<strong>Billy the Exterminator<\/strong>\u00a0(A&amp;E),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Deal or No Deal<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(GSN),\u00a0<strong>Forensic Files<\/strong>\u00a0(TruTV),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Dirty Jobs<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(Discovery).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So the answer is &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;
