Because, after all, what else can the GOP in the Senate do than act as a minority spoiler of … well, pretty much everything. <\/p>\n

In this case, they're holding hostage confirming a director for the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (without which the bureau cannot fully function) unless they can get revisited the whole nature of the law that the CFPB was created under. <\/p>\n

I.e., it's not about his qualifications. It's not about "advice and consent" of the nominee per se. It's effectively about taking hostages and blackmailing the citizenry. #ddtb<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA vote today in the Senate over whether or not to confirm Richard Cordray as the new director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has been blocked with a filibuster by opponents of the current structure of the bureau.<\/p>\n

The lawmakers involved in the filibuster are seeking changes to the CFPB that could weaken its ability to protect consumers. Our wise elders at the Consumers Union are weighing in on today's blocked vote.<\/p>\n
