A nice chapter here on-line from the book Don’t Make Me Think <\/i>about how people use web pages — which is, in fact, quite a bit different<\/a> from how so many web page designers design pages to be used.<\/p>\n

When we\u2019re creating sites, we act as though people are going to pore over each page, reading our finely crafted text, figuring out how we\u2019ve organized things, and weighing their options before deciding which link to click.
\nWhat they actually do most of the time (if we\u2019re lucky) is glance at each new page, scan some of the text, and click on the first link that catches their interest or vaguely resembles the thing they\u2019re looking for. There are usually large parts of the page that they don\u2019t even look at.
\nWe\u2019re thinking \u201cgreat literature\u201d (or at least \u201cproduct brochure\u201d), while the user\u2019s reality is much closer to \u201cbillboard going by at 60 miles an hour.\u201d<\/p>\n
