{"id":2502,"date":"2002-06-13T06:47:59","date_gmt":"2002-06-13T11:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/?p=2502"},"modified":"2002-06-13T06:47:59","modified_gmt":"2002-06-13T11:47:59","slug":"thursday_stuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2002\/06\/13\/thursday_stuff.html","title":{"rendered":"Thursday stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s time once again for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/thursday\/archives\/001203.html\">Thursday Thumb-Twiddler<\/a> &#8212; proof once again that not only can I answer the tough questions, but I can ask &#8217;em, too.<\/p>\n<p><b>1. If you had the knowledge, would you inform your mate (or a parent) that they have an incurable disease? Or would you try to keep the truth from them (assume they are in full command of their faculties) for as long as possible?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to think that I could be as honest and fully disclosing as I would want others to be to me.  I know that few things are as distressing to me as having expectations radically altered.  I&#8217;d rather have as much time as possible with the correct expectations as wait until the last moment to learn, oops, I guess we <i>won&#8217;t <\/i>be going on that vacation next summer &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If I feel that way, I&#8217;m morally obliged to do the same for others.<\/p>\n<p>Now if the question were, when would I tell my mate\/parents about a terminal illness <i>I <\/i>had &#8230; well (cough, cough) that wasn&#8217;t the question asked &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><b>2. If you had a choice of one intimate &#8220;soulmate&#8221; and no other close friends, or of no such soulmates and many friends and acquaintances, which would you choose?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>My life has tended toward small groups of friends.  I can imagine having nobody but Margie in my life; I can&#8217;t imagine having everyone but her.<\/p>\n<p><b>3. Which sport would you most like to play professionally?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Golf.  Good exercise without the usual panoply of career-ending-crunches that drive most folks out of competitive play after three or four years.
