Steve Benan discusses Romney's victory speech in New Hampshire last night, and raises an interesting question.<\/p>\n

_ After mocking the president\u2019s \u201clofty promises,\u201d Romney also proclaimed last night: \u201cOur campaign is about more than replacing a president; it is about saving the soul of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

First, I\u2019d prefer that pandering politicians leave our soul alone. Second, \u201csaving the soul of America\u201d sounds a little \u201clofty\u201d to me.<\/p>\n

And how, exactly, does Romney intend to save the American soul? As it turns out, he never quite got around to that. And that\u2019s part of the problem I have with his candidacy.<\/p>\n

It occurred to me, watching the guy deliver a series of cheap attacks that I doubt even he believes, that Romney has been running for president for more than five years straight, and I still have no idea why he wants the job or what he intends to do with these awesome responsibilities._<\/p>\n

I mean, sure, it's an effective way to cut your own taxes, but that seems a bit like overkill. #ddtb<\/p>\n
