Yeah, a regular &quot;Profiles in Courage&quot; candidate, right there.<\/p>\n<p>As part of his argument, he says, that, yes, it would have been better to have put racial civil rights up for a vote in the South.  <i>&quot;The fact of the matter is, I think people would have been happy to have a referendum on civil rights rather than fighting and dying in the streets in the South.&quot;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Because, of course, the white racists in the South wouldn&#39;t have done everything in their power to influence <i>that<\/i> particular referendum.
