Which includes Google, the source of Android. The Fire users a special version of the Android OS &#8212; one apparently deeply modified by Amazon &#8212; and can&#39;t be easily updated or made compatible for applications written for the latest Android version.  Ultimately, Amazon will have to do something about that &#8212; but whether that means joining the club again, crafting its own update, or something completely different is still open to question.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the plus side to this is that more companies (possibly even Google itself) are putting out low-cost Android tablets, or have them on the drawing board.
