Really. \u00a0We all kind of hope that reality<\/i> — who is innocent, who is guilty, what punishment is\u00a0warranted\u00a0— will fall out of the justice system. But, really — it's primarily about making sure that the "due process" is followed, and if you get caught up in the gears, oh, well …<\/p>\n

'"We can't be outcome driven," said Anne Tompkins, the U.S. attorney in Charlotte. "We've got to make sure we follow the law, and people should want us to do that."'<\/i><\/p>\n

The "outcome" in this case being the release of men who are innocent of the charges brought against them because their crime has been declared not a crime.<\/p>\n

These aren't necessarily nice people who are wrongly imprisoned. But, then, justice isn't about niceness<\/i> either, one way or the other.<\/p>\n
