Went Golfing for God today. Well, sorta. It was our parish’s annual golf get-together. Since I haven’t been golfing much this season, I expected I would have problems.<\/p>\n
It’s nice to have your expectations met, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

My driving was okay, usually of decent length, rarely in the fairway, but usually just off of it. My fairway shots were actually fairly decent. <\/p>\n
My putting was so-so. Sometimes short, sometimes long.<\/p>\n
My short game — pitching, in particular — was a never-ending nightmare. On the front nine, I regularly pitched from one side of the green to the other. Then back. Blading the ball, usually.<\/p>\n
Lots of 8’s on the front nine. On the back nine, a lot of those turned to sixes, which still wasn’t anything to write home about. One par, on a par 3. Two bogies, maybe. The rest …<\/p>\n
… well, on the bright side, I didn’t pick up my ball once (no matter the temptation), and I never went over double-par.<\/p>\n
The course was Overland Public, a Denver muni course, and, in fact, the second oldest golf course in Colorado (founded 1895). Lots of Long, Straight Fairways. No water hazards to speak of. A few slopes, but mostly straight. Pretty, lots of humongous trees (the main hazard), but pretty straightforward.<\/p>\n
Because of the drought, everything was really short. Fairways and greens both ran like crazy. Even the “rough” was pretty short.<\/p>\n
I broke even on balls. Lost one (in plain sight, no less), found one, and then on one hole, my ball turned into someone else’s ball, very mysteriously.<\/p>\n
Overall, a fun, if somewhat frustrating, time. 118, if you must know, with a drop of five or six strokes on the back nine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
