{"id":29017,"date":"2012-08-07T17:28:13","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T23:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/07\/set-theory-the-subset-of-all-evil.html"},"modified":"2012-08-14T09:27:35","modified_gmt":"2012-08-14T15:27:35","slug":"set-theory-the-subset-of-all-evil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/07\/set-theory-the-subset-of-all-evil.html","title":{"rendered":"Set Theory &#8211; the Subset of All Evil!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was in elementary school when New Math swept the school district (make this around late 60s to very early 70s), and we went from a math book that was page after page of addition and multiplication problems to a math book that talked about &#8230; well <i>crazy<\/i> stuff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like set theory. Sets. Supersets. Subsets. Unions. Intersections.<\/p>\n<p>I loved it. I can&#39;t speak for the effectiveness of New Math (effectiveness at <i>what,<\/i> I&#39;d ask), but set theory really made me happy.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we didn&#39;t get into the really deep high mathematics of set theory and Cantor and all of that. But I guess some fundies are afraid of that kind of exposure as a gateway drug, because, well, they seem to be dead-set against it.<\/p>\n<p>Why?
