How do you picture your funeral?

I hope there are some nice things said (or, rather, I hope I’ve done things to warrent nice things being said). It will probably be a religious service, and I hope that doesn’t keep too many people away. (Actually, I’d love to have a full-bore cathedral funeral, thousands of family and dignitaries, lots of great hymns (Margie knows the ones) on a huge pipe organ, “bells and smells” and the whole enchilada. State funeral. Think of a Chariots of Fire sort of memorial service, with a boy’s choir singing “Jerusalem” … well, maybe that’s going a bit far. I’d also like chance to vet the sermon, but that’s probably not likely.)

Afterwards, I expect everyone to get together and have a fun party, with plenty of games and laughter. I expect all my RPG characters to be turned into integral NPCs in the campaigns I’m in, and the GMs to have a great deal of fun in doing so (“Della! You’re the real Sith Lord?!”). I expect everyone to play at least one game of Diplomacy after I’m gone (since it seems exceedingly unlikely that I’ll ever see one played while I’m still alive).

As to the disposition of the remains, I really don’t care all that much (any more than I care what Goodwill does with my donated clothes, and for much the same reason). I would like a kick-ass marker, though, so that future historians and/or relatives of a genealogical bent have no trouble find me.

2. As a juror, you are sworn to not discuss with anyone the details of the trial you’re impaneled for. Do you (would you) anyway?

The one jury I’ve been on, I managed to not talk with anyone about the case, even Margie (nor did she pry) until after it was done. Heck, I even avoided driving past the “scene of the crime,” even though both sides made contradictory assertions about the physical layout of the location (a restaurant parking lot) but never bothered to show any photos.

Now that was on a two-day case. If I were on a much longer jury, I suspect I would need to discuss it with Margie (and I can trust her to keep her mouth shut). It wouldn’t be fair to either of us if I didn’t.

I take this jury stuff seriously. Which is why I continue to be amused by the number of hits I get on “getting out of jury duty” (probably because I keep mentioning it).

3. Would you rather live someplace where it’s always between 80-90 degrees F both day and night, or someplace where it’s always 40-50 degrees F? (For you metric types, that’s 26-32C or 4-10C.)

For physical comfort, I’ll take the cold zone, no question. It’s a lot easier to bundle up than to sweat a lot.

The only problem I see is that the landscaping in a 40-50 degree area is going to be a lot more limited than in a hotter area. I would likely miss that, a lot.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[32

post-2914","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-personal-qa
https://hill-kleerup.org/blog/2016/03/12/the-furor-over-obama-not-attending-nancy-reagans-funeral-3.html
Much fulminating reported by Fox News from various conservative sources about "petty" Obama "snubbing" the Nancy Reagan funeral (see also disappointed Bill O'Reilly at http://goo.gl/KxNL20).Credit where credit is due, the article does note (halfway down):'Obama, though, hardly is setting a precedent by missing the funeral of a former first lady.…
Funeral over.
