The link below has info on all the highway closures, bus reroutings, etc., for the first Presdential Debate, being held at DU on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

I'm still trying to figure out whose brilliant idea it was to select the venue, if it was going to lead to this level of disruption — and, once that level was identified, why the venue wasn't changed. \u00a0This is just nuts.<\/p>\n

'On the evening of Wednesday, October 3, Interstate 25 will be completely closed in both directions from the Santa Fe Drive (US 85) interchange to the Hampden Avenue (US 285) interchange for the 2012 presidential debate at the University of Denver. Although all closures, dates and times are subject to change, it is anticipated that the six-mile portion of I-25 will be closed from approximately 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

Federal authorities requested the closure to help ensure safety during the presidential debate.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cWe recognize that motorists traveling through the area will experience some delay and inconvenience,\u201d said CDOT Executive Director Don Hunt. \u00a0\u201cWe are working with multiple agencies on the local, state and federal level to do everything possible to keep those delays to a minimum.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Mr. Hunt is a master of understatement. This is going to have a massive impact for anyone working anywhere south of I-70, as folks try to work around this. I-25 is the major freeway artery north-south in Denver and the Front Range. \u00a0To close a key part of it for 5-6 hours, starting in rush hour, is just plain stupid.<\/p>\n

I'd considered going into the office anyway, since on that day of the week, I usually take the SW light rail line which wouldn't go near this. \u00a0That said, \u00a0it's still going to be something of a mess, so I'll be telecommuting.<\/p>\n
