For too many people, "Republican = Christian". \u00a0From the outside of Christianity, Christians get identified with conservative Christian evangelical types, many of whom are<\/i> Republican … and who, themselves, mistake their particular flavor of Christianity with Christianity as a whole (and, thus, their political affiliation with The Only Party a True Christian(TM) Can Belong To).<\/p>\n

As a non-theist I often keep company with people who write off all Christians on the basis of the religious right – which is admittedly the loudest branch of that religion in this country. But it is important to recognize that within Christianity is a broad range of human values, from inexplicably Ayn Rand-ish and hating gays, to OT prophet's concern for the poor.
