Two of the problems with making generalizations about the Middle Ages are that (a) the boundaries in time and space that make up the Middle Ages are kind of vague, but (b) we're talking most of Europe and about 750 years. \u00a0Try making a generalization about culture from … oh, well, the end of the MIddle Ages to now (and what day-to-day life is like in that context from Portugal to Russia), and you're going to be about as accurate.<\/p>\n

That said, of course, everyone takes shortcuts. Heck, we know how goofy stereotypes of the Wild West in the US are, and we're talking about a fraction of the space, maybe 50 years of time, and only a century and a half ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n
