While people criticize Disney for taking classic fiction and fable material and bowdlerizing it into formulaic pap, the truth is that's how mythology works — recasting stories for new audiences to teach some sort of lesson. \u00a0That Disney and Kipling had two very different ends for Mowgli's tale is amusing (highly so), but that doesn't mean the Disney version isn't legitimate literature for the ends to which it is put (which are different from the ends to which Kipling was writing).\u00a0<\/div>\n
