{"id":32656,"date":"2013-03-01T08:47:26","date_gmt":"2013-03-01T15:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/01\/death-and-comics.html"},"modified":"2015-05-08T11:24:06","modified_gmt":"2015-05-08T17:24:06","slug":"death-and-comics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/01\/death-and-comics.html","title":{"rendered":"Death and Comics"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gpb-content\">This article doesn&#39;t tell anyone anything they don&#39;t already know if they follow comics &#8212; aside from noting resurrections of heroes from the dead in one way or another are standard mythological fare.<\/p>\n<p>Since pretty much nobody is sacrosanct (though I don&#39;t think Marvel has ever brought Uncle Ben back, have they?), the issue becomes twofold: \u00a0(1) are the resurrections handled well in a literary sense (no lazy <i>deus ex machina<\/i> chrono-cosmic vortices and miracle tecnology need apply) and (2) are the resurrections \/ returns themselves in the service of worthwhile stories?<\/p>\n<p>Most comics fall flat on #1 (whether the return is planned or not) &#8212; Superman and Captain America come to mind here. #2 is more interesting to me in some ways, in terms of whether there are more good, visionary stories to tell \u00a0with the character to make their resurrection worthy (esp. if their death was somehow epic). Jason Todd? Yeah. Barry Allen?
