Does forbidding retail liquor licenses within 500 feet of schools actually keep children safer? \u00a0I suppose if a liquor establishment has the surroundings littered with winos, that might be a bit offputting for the younglings, but I'm unconvinced that a restaurant serving margaritas on the weekend or at night is incompatible with a private school operated down the block during the day.<\/p>\n

Amazingly, it appears the Denver City Council feels the same way.<\/p>\n

Colorado law forbids issuing retail liquor licenses within 500 feet of a school but gives the local licensing authority the right to eliminate the restriction. The rule was dropped in Denver a few years ago for colleges and universities, and now for K-12.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
