{"id":32775,"date":"2013-03-13T21:50:54","date_gmt":"2013-03-14T03:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/13\/rip-google-reader-july-1.html"},"modified":"2013-03-13T21:50:54","modified_gmt":"2013-03-14T03:50:54","slug":"rip-google-reader-july-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/13\/rip-google-reader-july-1.html","title":{"rendered":"RIP, Google Reader (July 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gpb-content\">Well &#8230; poop.<\/p>\n<p>True, my own Reader use is way, way down over the last year or two. \u00a0Yes, Google&#39;s Plus experiment worked in most ways, though ironically one thing it has done is made me more remote from the rest of the Internet (except those bits with a Plus or Twitter presence). \u00a0Information overload, and even though I still have dozens of feeds in Reader, there&#39;s only a handful that I go in and check periodically.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, the biggest shame here is the huge stake this puts in the heart of RSS, which remains a fantastic way of distributing and aggregating content, but isn&#39;t &quot;monified&quot; enough in some way to be worth Google (or anyone else of note) doing anything serious with it. \u00a0That strikes me as very dumb.<\/p>\n<p>I will need to make a concerted effort to go through my feed list and create favorites out of the sites I still follow.
