{"id":33640,"date":"2013-05-07T09:39:09","date_gmt":"2013-05-07T15:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/07\/seeking-a-balance-in-regulatory-oversight.html"},"modified":"2013-05-09T10:08:48","modified_gmt":"2013-05-09T16:08:48","slug":"seeking-a-balance-in-regulatory-oversight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/07\/seeking-a-balance-in-regulatory-oversight.html","title":{"rendered":"Seeking a balance in regulatory oversight"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gpb-content\">I tend to rant and rave (yes) on occasion about businesses trying to get out from under necessary health and safety regs, in the name of making big bucks, and in the process endangering the health and lives of employees, customers, and neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>But I am not unsympathetic to the burdens of regulations, and how mismatched and conflicting and over-complicated regs can hurt not just business (and its employees) but services that customers want to have.<\/p>\n<p>Food safety, for example, is really important, and in the food truck (&quot;roach coach,&quot; as we used to call them) business it&#39;s critical. But the regulatory environment described here strikes me less as ensuring food safety as much as it ensures that people don&#39;t go into business in the first place. \u00a0There is room for a balance.
