Well, yesterday wended its way to a conclusion without the promised callback from my new boss. I even rang up his secretary to touch bases, just in case I hadn’t gotten word about something.<\/p>\n
I drove home with my handphone on, which is a good thing, since he called, of course. We had a very pleasant chat for about ten minutes, from which I drew the following:<\/p>\n
The general enthusiasm about having me on board and so forth was tempered by the, well, utter lack of any distinct direction as to where things are moving.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, he has our Management Consultant calling me today, to tell me how I should be doing some of the functions I’ve been doing (which, I guess, means I’ll still be doing some of those functions, only differently), after which, by cracky, the New Boss and I will get back together for a further conversation.<\/p>\n
Uhhhhh-huh.<\/p>\n
Tension level still not perceptibly dropping here. I mean, I don’t see myself as being fired or anything. On the other hand, I’m a control freak (no, really?), and I like knowing what’s expected of me, what the goals are, and being given direction that I should be going. <\/p>\n
I don’t even mind if the direction changes<\/i>, as long as it’s pointed out to me.<\/p>\n
But when I hear about changing directions, evolving plans, departmental restructuring, etc., and don’t get any more info like that, well, then, I get antsy. I feel like I’m being set up to fail. I get cranky.<\/p>\n
But I do get lots of word count, too, so it’s not all <\/i>bad.<\/p>\n
