… time for all those Personal Q&A things I do on Thursdays, now all conveniently bundled up into one Extended Entry for your skipping-over satisfaction!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Let’s start off with this week’s Thursday Thumb-Twiddler<\/a>:<\/p>\n

1. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?<\/b> Actually, all told, I have very little to complain about. I wish we hadn’t moved when we did (though I understand and even agree with why we did), I wish I’d not gone to a boy’s HS for a year and a half (though I understand and agree with why I did), I wish I’d gotten more of an allowance, little things like that. But, by and large, my folks did a pretty good job.<\/p>\n

2. Have you ever displayed in your home a hated, ugly, and useless gift, just because the donor happened to be paying you a visit?<\/b> Why, not, never, not at all. And thanks for reminding me that my folks are coming to visit today, and, by the way, honey<\/i>, where’s that you-know-what <\/i>that you-know-who <\/i>gave us, and maybe we should put it out on the table, y’know?<\/i><\/p>\n

3. If you were writing a new children’s book, what might you choose for the setting, and who might the main character be?<\/b> “Sally, the Silly White Tiger, and the interesting friends she met in Arizona.”<\/p>\n

Moving right along, how about the Thursday Threesome<\/a>?<\/p>\n

Onesome: Starbucks<\/i>. Are you a coffee drinker? Yeah? What’s your favorite brew? Not? Then what gets you going each day?<\/b> After a brief bout going back to tea, I’m one against mainlining the good stuff. We have a good vanilla nut blend here in the office that I consume (way too many) cups of daily.<\/p>\n

When I’m out, I usually order whatever the normal house coffee is. I rarely get just plain coffee at Starbucks, though — usually an espresso drink of some sort, or a Frappacino, etc. Caramel Macchiato is my friend.<\/p>\n

Remind me to tell my Kenyan AA story some day.<\/p>\n

Twosome: Christmas<\/i>. Are you ready? …or is it still a little early?<\/b> We were just discussing that last night. I have no idea what I’m getting Margie. Once upon a time, Thanksgiving was our “Getting Christmas Rolling” landmark — do up Christmas cards do catalog shopping, put up the decoations — but NaNoWriMo last year and my in-laws visiting this year may put a crimp in that. On the other hand, with the in-laws in town, maybe we can do Christmas decorating then (honey, put that on the To Do list, please).<\/p>\n

Threesome: Blend<\/i>. Is autumn blending into winter for you? …or are you already there?<\/b> Autumn was slow and odd in coming, with the drought here. Then a week of snow and freezing temps, and, bam! We’re back to comfy 50s again, but a lot of the cottonwoods never actually turned, just had their leaves frozen (said leaves will, I suspect, be dropping all winter long).<\/p>\n

And, finally, it’s 3XThursday<\/a>, the Comic Strip Edition.<\/p>\n

1. What is your favorite comic strip and why?<\/b> Calvin & Hobbes<\/i>, hands down. I reread the strips daily, and they are still bowel-loosening funny. I’ll never forgive Watterson for retiring, but I’m also glad he did while the strip was at the top of its form. <\/p>\n

2. If you could add yourself to a comic strip as a character in a what would it be and what would you do?<\/b> I’d want to be a character in an ongoing, character-driven strip. For Better or For Worse<\/i>, perhaps, or The Norm<\/i>, or one of Batiuk’s strips (Crankshaft <\/i>or Funky Winkerbean<\/i>), or even Doonesbury<\/i>. I would be myself, of course.<\/p>\n

(Of course, being a regular in Dork Towers <\/i>— which kinda qualifies as a strip — would be cool. Or even Knights of the Dinner Table<\/i>.<\/p>\n

3. If you could stop one comic strip from being published ever again what would it be and why?<\/b> Oh, God, there are strips I thought were passably funny decades ago that are chiming exactly the same note today, like the Comic Strip of the Living Dead. My eyes just skip over them automatically, without seeing them.<\/p>\n
