The Boy Scouts of America national council has voted\u00a061-31 to allow gay youth. I applaud them on their courage in doing so, in the face of these kind of reactions (from\u00a0http:\/\/goo.gl\/Wyh02<\/a>):<\/p>\n

_'"We are deeply saddened," said Frank Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's executive committee after learning of the result. "Homosexual behavior is incompatible with the principles enshrined in the Scout oath and Scout law."<\/p>\n

The Assemblies of God, another conservative denomination, said the policy change "will lead to a mass exodus from the Boy Scout program." It also warned that the change would make the BSA vulnerable to lawsuits seeking to end the ban on gay adults.<\/i><\/p>\n

Texas Gov. Rick Perry also expressed dismay. "While I will always cherish my time as a Scout and the life lessons I learned, I am greatly disappointed with this decision," he said.'_<\/p>\n

Hey, any decision that torques off the SBC, the Assemblies of God, and Rick Perry has to have something going for it.<\/p>\n

Left mostly undiscussed at this meeting\u00a0was allowing openly gay adult scout leaders. \u00a0Amidst the (largely unfounded, IMO) concerns about abuse, maintaining a policy that gay youth can participate in the organization until 18, then he is suddenly a persona non grata,<\/i> simply cannot stand for long.<\/div>\n
