It’s This or That Tuesday<\/a>, the Vacation Edition.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. DisneyLand or DisneyWorld?<\/b><\/p>\n

Depends on what you mean. Magic Kingdom (West) vs Magic Kingdom (East)? Or the Anaheim Disneycluster vs the Orlando Disneycluster?<\/p>\n

If the former, I have to give the nod to the original. Maybe it’s just because I grew up there, but the original DL Magic Kingdom just feels right, and the DW version feels like a remake, “bigger and better” but lacking some of the original charm.<\/p>\n

If the latter, then Orlando has it all over Anaheim; I’ve not been to California Adventure (and neither have a lot of other people, evidently), but the DW resort as a whole has some fabulous parks and some great places to stay.<\/p>\n

2. Amusement park or Themed park?<\/b><\/p>\n

I.e., pure roller coasters or the Matterhorn?<\/p>\n

Generally speaking, I find good theme parks (i.e., Disney) have better ambience than amusement parks (e.g., the Six Flags chain). The facilities are nicer, more varied, there’s things to look at and enjoy while standing in endless queues, the gift shopes are better, etc. Sure, for pure adrenline-soaked puke-spewing fun, amusement parks take the prize, but only because that’s all they can <\/i>offer.<\/p>\n

3. Seashore or Mountains?<\/b><\/p>\n

Mountains. I’m not an ocean fan. Too much sand, too much salt water.<\/p>\n

4. Hotel\/Motel or rental house?<\/b><\/p>\n

Generally speaking, we don’t spend time in our accomodations, so the niceties of a rental house are a waste for us.<\/p>\n

B&Bs on the other hand are always a nice idea.<\/p>\n

5. Guided tour or aimless meandering?<\/b> Self-guided meandering, that’s the ticket. I want to find interesting things on the map and drive there.<\/p>\n

6. Drive or Fly or Boat?<\/b><\/p>\n

I’m not daunted by long car rides (yet), but the journey is not <\/i>the destination. If I have a week off, I don’t want to spend half of it on the Interstate. So flying is the way to go.<\/p>\n

Boating is simply a mobile destination. Doesn’t count.<\/p>\n

7. Close or far away from home?<\/b><\/p>\n

Plenty available in either case. No preference, except so far as it impacts travel time.<\/p>\n

8. Daytrip or by the week?<\/b><\/p>\n

I prefer real, multi-day vacations. Margie keeps trying to encourage me to think more about long weekends.<\/p>\n

9. Camping in a tent or the Holiday Inn?<\/b><\/p>\n

It depends. Can I get hot showers, flush toilets, and an operating blender at the tent? ‘Cause if not, I’m staying at the Holiday Inn.<\/p>\n

10. Rent a car or drive your own?<\/b><\/p>\n

Travelability is a prerequisite for the vehicles we own. I’d much rather have our own car than rent one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
