It’s last week’s Saturday Scruples<\/a>:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. You don’t care for an elderly aunt, But she’s very wealthy and constantly revising her will. Are you more attentive?<\/b><\/p>\n

I’m polite (as always), but not obtrusively attentive. I’m not that big a hypocrite.<\/p>\n

2. Church inspires you. Your 12-year-old son prefers to watch basketball on the tube. Do you insist your child attend church with you?<\/b><\/p>\n

Church is a family thing as much as a personal thing. Twelve is too young to decide what family functions s\/he will or won’t attend.<\/p>\n

3. Your brother is engaged to marry someone who you think is bad news. He’s in love. Do you try to reason with him?<\/b><\/p>\n

On those rare occasions when I’ve been concerned about friends and their romantic choices, I’ve usually turned out to be wrong. And even if I weren’t, it’s not something you can do anything about. All you can do is be polite, supportive, and (prospectively) there when it goes flooey. As long as it doesn’t involve criminal activity, it’s the other person’s look-out, unless they ask you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
