But liberals who defend this and say it is not a bad thing are very anti-science. When you look at biology — when you look at the natural world — the roles of a male and a female in society and in other animals, the male typically is the dominant role. The female, it’s not antithesis, or it’s not competing, it’s a complimentary role.'

"Reality" shows us that having a female breadwinner is bad for kids and marriage, Erickson says.

I always love to hear conservatives draw lessons from nature, since such lessons invariably match their predispositions. I could point to any number of species where females are the primary caretakers and providers for their children, and males are irrelevant or an actual threat to offspring. I could point to any number of species where sexual partnership is a matter of which male is the better fighter, or how many mates the female chooses to pick. I could point to any number of species where homosexuality occurs, or where parents eat their offspring, or where parents abandon their children.

My point is not to draw moral equivalence to any of those, but to suggest that most conservative pundits would not turn to what "nature" does as a justification for those behaviors in humans. When it's convenient (i.e., in alignment with what they want), they look to nature. When it's not, they turn to the Bible. When neither fit their agenda, they turn to "tradition." None of those are objective or consistent arguments.

Erickson's lamenting of changes in American employment demographics are one thing. We can debate what the effects are of such changes, as well as their causes.
