Nothing like walking into work at 6 a.m. to find the power is off. Especially if you’re an IT person whose job really relies upon … well, electrical devices.<\/p>\n

So, what to do, what to do, during the three hour black-out we had in our building.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Bring all my page-a-day calendars up to date.\n
  2. Use the last of the hot water in the coffee machine to pour a cup of tea.\n
  3. Call the building management to make sure they know that the power is out. (They do.) Call the corporate Help Desk to have an event ticket issued.\n
  4. Clean my desk off. Throw away most of the paper, file some stuff, make some new stacks. Dust.\n
  5. Build the Bionicle I got at the Disney World Lego shop last December. Cool.\n
  6. Wash my coffee mugs. Long overdue.\n
  7. Listen to the beeping of the various UPCs over in the IT corral.\n
  8. Field a couple of calls to the Help Desk before the phone system shuts itself down.\n
  9. Take some quotations I had from various page-a-day calendars and type them into my Palm.\n
  10. Read trade journals. Fortunately, I have a sunny office.<\/ol>\n
