{"id":38511,"date":"2013-08-19T12:47:10","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T18:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/08\/19\/worlds-worst-kept-secret-revealed.html"},"modified":"2013-08-19T12:47:10","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T18:47:10","slug":"worlds-worst-kept-secret-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2013\/08\/19\/worlds-worst-kept-secret-revealed.html","title":{"rendered":"World&#39;s worst-kept secret &#8230; revealed!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gpb-content\">Yes, the CIA (most likely with the support of the UK&#39;s foreign service) was responsible for a coup of a democratically elected national leader, installing a government that was useful to us for a while, until it led to a revolution that&#39;s caused us nothing but grief since.<\/p>\n<p>Stop me if you&#39;ve heard this one.<\/p>\n<p>One of the problems with US foreign policy is that it is far too closely tied to US economic interests (in this case, reacting to a nationalization of Iran&#39;s oil industry), and thus acts on their behalf, not on behalf of any ideals or considered interests in the matter. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The answer is not to withdraw from the world, of course &#8212; that path\u00a0just allows genocide, if nothing else. \u00a0But our engagement with the world needs to be something more thougthful than it is. \u00a0It&#39;s not that being the world&#39;s policeman is a problem &#8212; if we were really acting on behalf of international law and order &#8212; but that we&#39;re more often the world&#39;s mall cop, kicking people around because the shop owners don&#39;t like them there. \u00a0Not surprisingly, that rarely ends well.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class='gpb-article' style='clear:both;'>\n<p style='margin-bottom:5px;'><strong>Embedded Link<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>                                                <a href='http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/global-affairs\/middle-east-north-africa\/317613-at-long-last-cia-admits-role-in-iran-coup'>Sixty years later, CIA admits role in Iran coup &#8211; The Hill&#8217;s Global Affairs<\/a><br \/>\n                                                The National Security Archive on Monday published evidence of the CIA&#8217;s long-known role in the 1953 Iran coup that helped pave the way for the Islamic revolution 26 years later.
