For her, we got a Moto X, which is just out for Verizon and has been getting some great press as a solid mid-level phone that’s designed to be very Google-centric (no Motorola-imposed skins). It’s about the same size as her old one, but a lot thinner. While AT&T has a special deal for getting them in various color combinations, Verizon doesn’t (yet) — she still went with the white (vs. black) one, along with a sporty purple case and a new Blue Tooth headphone.

The Cunning Master Plan was that this would free up Margie’s Droid X2 to go to Kay, who’s been using a <del datetime="2013-09-29T01:40:44+00:00">dumb phone</del> feature phone — an LG Cosmos 2 — since that same shopping trip (well, since Christmas 2011). I’ve long wanted her to get a smartphone, for a variety of reasons.

Well, she felt the Droid X2 was too big. She ends up carrying her phone in her pants pocket, not being a purse-toting sort of lady as yet, so something too big, with the kind of jeans she wears, was problematic.

Kay’s Mono Mini

So, after much huffing and puffing from the Father Unit, she ended up getting a Moto Droid Mini, which fits in the pants and gives her smartphoney goodness.

The really hard part being, of course, not grabbing the phone out of her hands to show her how it all works and how to make it particularly (in my view) all spiffy. Not that Kay’s at all willing to put up with that.

And thus, here we all are, a big Motorola Android Smartphone family.

My own phone doesn’t come due for replacement until February. Hmmmm ….

(As a special note, the Verizon store in Lone Tree by Park Meadows remains a fine place, and our customer rep (Angie? Angela?) was both helpful and not all that pushy.
