Still patriotically crazy after all these years. \u00a0Yeah, the translation from stage to film is only half-baked, but it's a great musical, and some great actors (many of them reprising their Broadway role). And when your middle school daughter is studying the American Revolution, it's a great excuse to rewatch it …<\/p>\n

(As a side note, while most people seem to remember William Daniels — John Adams on Broadway and here — for his role as KITT's voice on "Knight Rider," some<\/i> of us remember him as Dr. Mark Craig on "St Elsewhere" … and recall the one episode where he did a reprise of "It's hot as Hell in Philadelphia".)<\/div>\n

\n I’m not a musical guy, but “1776” is so full of historical goodness and political satire that it overcomes the inherent unreality of people breaking into tunes whenever the writer things the action is beginning to drag. And the music’s pretty good, too. The actors — William Daniels and Howard Da Silva — are fantastic. The awkwardness of essentially reshooting a stage play in “real” settings is overcome by the inherent meatiness of the drama unf…\n <\/p>\n
