There's actually a fair amount of truth\u00a0to this article — the most recent run of popes have been critical of both sexual libertarianism and<\/i> capitalism \/ materialism \/ wealth accumulation.\u00a0The difference is that Francis is downplaying (though still maintaining) the former\u00a0position, while prominently (and through personal example) emphasizing the latter. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The result is a lot of the Right going bonkers and a lot on the Left going, "Wow, I like this guy," both thinking there's something radical going on, policy-wise, without realizing that on some level it's more about style and emphasis than any actual change.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The interesting thing to me is less the folks who are missing that the Pope isn't<\/i> saying that abortion and gay marriage are all right by the Church, and more\u00a0the folks getting all in a tizzy because Francis is suggesting out loud (per Catholic teaching) there's a moral<\/i> component to the economy, which is the last thing that those people want to hear.\ufeff<\/div>\n
