{"id":41010,"date":"2014-02-06T11:48:23","date_gmt":"2014-02-06T18:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2014\/02\/06\/because-compelled-labor-is-an-american-virtue.html"},"modified":"2014-02-10T11:20:59","modified_gmt":"2014-02-10T18:20:59","slug":"because-compelled-labor-is-an-american-virtue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2014\/02\/06\/because-compelled-labor-is-an-american-virtue.html","title":{"rendered":"Because compelled labor is an American virtue?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gpb-content\">The CBO report on the ACA indicates that <i>some<\/i> people, who are no longer forced to work full time for their employer in order to qualify for medical insurance (it being available from state exchanges) <i>might<\/i> cut back on their hours worked.<\/p>\n<p>First off, it seems more than a bit bizarre for the GOP to paint this as &quot;jobs lost&quot;. \u00a0It&#39;s not jobs lost, it&#39;s jobs (or hours of work) <i>not taken.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I mean, if it&#39;s okay for employers to cut back on someone&#39;s hours, surely it&#39;s okay for <i>employees<\/i> to do so if they can afford to (esp. since the employers would need to okay that in most cases). I think that&#39;s called <i>freedom,<\/i> something the Republicans often claim to care about.<\/p>\n<p>Further, and again, this isn&#39;t job loss, but employee loss. In theory, that makes for additional hours of work available for other people to take. You&#39;ve got 100 hourly workers, and 4 of them decide to work 30 hours a week instead of 40? \u00a0That&#39;s a whole new full-time job for someone. Isn&#39;t that a good thing?<\/p>\n<p>Finally, presumably this means that people (women <i>or<\/i> men) who have children would be then able to spend more time with those kids, which I would think the GOP would be thrilled about, wouldn&#39;t you?
