2,200 Degrees Yet Cool Enough to Handle<\/b><\/p>\n

A very cool<\/b> (pardon the temperature pun) demonstration of LI-900<\/b> in action. This is the stuff that the Space Shuttle<\/b> tiles are made from.<\/p>\n

They are composed of 99.9% silica glass<\/b> and are 94% air<\/b> by volume. That means that they are incredibly<\/b> bad heat conductors, making those edges safe to handle with bare hands.<\/b><\/p>\n

They can also be submerged immediately<\/b> into cold water and suffer no damage. Pretty neat, huh?<\/p>\n

We thought so, and since we love all things \u00a0#science<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0and \u00a0#space<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0here at www.solarvps.com<\/a> – we figured it was definitely worth a share.<\/p>\n
