A more detailed look at World Vision's decision to accept the authority of denominations that marry gays, and then their decision to backtrack on that first decision on the face of a conservative evangelical firestorm.<\/p>\n

'[World Vision president Richard Stearns] said that despite online conjecture, World Vision had not been pressured by the government to hire married gay employees. World Vision\u2019s annual budget is $1 billion, and the government provides 18 percent of its revenues, while 61 percent is from private cash contributions, a spokesman said. But the decision to make a U-turn was made after donors canceled \u201cseveral thousand\u201d child sponsorships in two days, Mr. Stearns said.<\/i><\/p>\n

Since the reversal, he said, \u201cWe\u2019ve had some people call back to say, \u2018Can I have my child back?\u2019 \u201d But, he added, \u201cNot everybody.\u201d'<\/i><\/p>\n

So for those folks who were wondering whether those ideologically purist Christians had been willing to cut off the impoverished children that World Vision supports, all in order to avoid the idea that married gays might be somehow handling their checks … the answer appears to be yes.<\/i> \u00a0<\/p>\n

Wonder what Jesus would say about that?\ufeff<\/p><\/div>\n
