The Revoke Michael Moore’s Oscar<\/a> site is a letter-writing campaign to get the AMPAS to revoke the Moore Oscar for Bowling for Columbine<\/i>, since it doesn’t really qualify as a documentary.<\/p>\n Bowling for Columbine <\/i>violated the Academy’s own rules. These limit the documentary competition to nonfiction films. Bowling isn’t nonfiction. Whenever it was necessary to his theme, Moore invented facts, fabricated events, staged scenes, or doctored the depiction of what actually happened.<\/p>\n It’s a futile effort, I suspect — AMPAS would not only have to admit its membership was wrong in the voting (even if the film should never have qualified in the first place), but it would be seen as knuckling under to the Visigoths who oppose Moore’s politics (which, if you believe Moore, are shared by the wonderful Hollywood community as a whole, as demonstrated by their standing ovation and their, ahem, booing at the folks booing Moore).<\/p>\n Still, there is the matter of principle …<\/p>\n UPDATE<\/u>: Roger Ebert weighs in<\/a>. Everything but boos from the grassy knoll. He even said some of the booers were booing the other booers.
