The Hobby Lobby<\/i> case had folks thinking in terms of small, mom-and-pop firms\u00a0on Main Street, Smalltown, Indiana. \u00a0But the terminology used — closely-held family owned businesses — includes such corporate behemoths as Mars (the candy makers), Bechtel, Cargill, Koch Industries, and Dell.<\/p>\n

Remember, those are now\u00a0all entities with religious viewpoints that have to be respected.\ufeff<\/p><\/div>\n

Hobby Lobby: ‘Closely Held’ Does Not Mean ‘Mom and Pop’ |<\/a>
\n In the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in Hobby Lobby, the Court held for the first time ever that a for-profit corporation counts as a \u201cperson\u201d under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and that a \u201cclosely held\u201d corporation basically shares the religious exercise rights of its owners.\n <\/p>\n
