Usually when I see a movie I think I'm going to like, the natural clustering of similar movies in the trailers makes for a good time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not, surprisingly, tonight. Of the trailers I saw before Guardians of the Galaxy,<\/i> there was very little I was particularly interested in seeing, and lots I'm actually chewing my leg out of the trap to avoid:<\/p>\n

When the Game Stands Tall<\/i><\/b> — Oh, boy! A movie about a football team! Wow! When can I start camping out for tickets? \u00a0Or … not.<\/p>\n

Into the Woods<\/i><\/b> — Okay, I can see seeing this. Though I'm beginning to worry that "live action fairy tale" films and TV shows are beginning to be a glut on the market.<\/p>\n

Night in the Museum 3<\/i><\/b> — Looks as charming and childlike as the first couple. Which I also didn't see.<\/p>\n

Annie<\/i><\/b> — Well, they managed to avoid The Song, but, really, this does nothing for me.<\/p>\n

Dumb and Dumber To<\/i><\/b> — Okay, that<\/i> would make me go see a football movie, if that was my only alternative.<\/p>\n

Interstellar<\/i><\/b> — Looks profound, dramatic, awe-inspiring, moving — and I really don't have any clear idea what's going on or why I'd want to see it.<\/p>\n

Expendables 3<\/i><\/b> — I eschewed the first two as well.<\/p>\n

Big Hero 6<\/i><\/b> — This looks actually pretty good, even better than the earlier trailers for it. And the 3D works well, too.<\/p>\n

Hobbit 3<\/i><\/b> — So, of course, I'm going to go see this … but I hope to God (for the sake of those who will be seeing it in 3D) that the 3D in the trailer was a rush job for the trailer itself, not how the 3D in the movie will work, because, ye gods, that was bad.<\/p>\n

So, three winners out of nine. And that's why I don't contribute more to Hollywood.\ufeff<\/p><\/div>\n
