That seems to be the mantra of the Republican National Committee, which is formally condemning the new College Board AP US History framework as being — well, just too downright negative.<\/i> Never mind that it's meant to be the equivalent a college-level history course, not a basic survey of US history for high schoolers — all that seems to matter is that it doesn't focus enough on lists of Founding Fathers and other Great American Heroes, nor on how spiffy the US is, and always has been.<\/p>\n

I mean, criticizing Manifest Destiny, or suggesting that the tenements of Gilded Age New York weren't the fault of immigrants that couldn't be bothered to learn English? How downright ideological!\ufeff<\/p><\/div>\n
