Life with Kitten has been fairly routine. There have been small evolutions over time — potty training being a big one, along with procedural mods as she’s become Far Too Clever For Our Own Good. But, by and large, the Big Change In Our Lives that resulted from having a kid has had a pretty constant, day-to-day regularity about it.<\/p>\n
Until now.<\/p>\n
So Katherine’s in preschool.<\/p>\n
“How long does this class go for?” I ask Margie.<\/p>\n
“Until May,” she replies.<\/p>\n
Until May.<\/i> We now have a regular commitment to getting her to preschool, on a standard schedule, for months<\/i>.<\/p>\n
I mean, she did some preschool back in the spring, but that was for a short duration. And her art classes over the summer have been pretty quick, too. And if she misses one? Ah, well. Not like it’s going to cause her to miss that one important class lesson, and so warp her pedagogical development for the rest of her life, thus consigning her to the dregs of society, living in a cardboard box, and cursing the name of her negligent parents.<\/i><\/p>\n
You see where I’m going here.<\/p>\n
This changes everything. Vacations. Business trips. Week-to-week activities. Everything.<\/i><\/p>\n
We now have a kid in school.<\/p>\n
