Yes, Rush, once upon a time, guys (or some guys, at least, you apparently among them) were taught that sometimes "No" meant "Yes" regarding sexual activity.<\/p>\n

Heck, women were sometimes taught that, too. The pursuit, the chase, the soft protest, the romantic swelling of music, etc. Sometimes women were taught that because they were also taught that actually seeming to want<\/i> to have sex was a sign that they were a slut (does the name Sandra Fluke ring a bell to you, Rush?). <\/p>\n

Of course, in a world where sometimes "No" means "Yes" and sometimes "No" means "No" (even in your no-doubt wildly-seductive arms, Rush), the result was that sometimes a "No" that meant "No" was taken as a permission for "Yes," with rape ensuing, and the guy shrugging it off as "Well, she wanted it, I could tell."<\/p>\n

So, yeah, the university standards you're so puckishly decrying sort of take all the mystery out of the consent game. But, tell me Rush, openly and honestly: do you really not<\/i> want to know, for absolute certain, that the woman you're about to have sex with actually wants you to? That you're not mistaking a "No" for a "Yes," that your Spot Consent roll wasn't a fumble behind the GM's screen?<\/p>\n

Because if you do<\/i> want to know that — then these guidelines seem a clear way to do so. And if you don't<\/i> want to know that — then they seem even more<\/i> important.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
