<\/a>Pre-game on Friday, we watched Treasure Planet<\/i><\/a>. I know my first impression, when I saw the ads, was, “Why the heck do we need yet another Treasure Island adaptation?” And the tepid press the movie got on release (and even more tepid box office) confirmed that.<\/p>\n

But you know what? It’s not a bad film. Visually, it’s swell. Story-wise, it’s a decent adaptation of the original. There are a few frayed plot threads here and there, but the characters are fun, the action is active, and, like I said, it’s visually very nicely done. Almost, at times, more eye candy than substance, perhaps, but still worth seeing. It’s not a classic, but undeserving of the panning it got. And I’d love to get a Capt. Amelia action figure …<\/p>\n

Though, to be honest, I think the mullet and rock soundtrack is going to seem awfully dated in, say, five years.<\/p>\n

Not certain I’m going to go out of my way to buy a copy — it’s too old still for Katherine — but I’m glad Doyce suggested we watch it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
