I've been repeatedly, and gravely disappointed by John McCain several times over the past decade-plus. But he's spot on here, informed not by ideology but by his own experience as a tortured prisoner of war in Viet Nam.<\/p>\n

'The use of torture compromises that which most distinguishes us from our enemies, our belief that all people, even captured enemies, possess basic human rights.'<\/i><\/p>\n

Makes me sorry he got knocked out of the 2000 GOP primaries through dirty tricks. I have to wonder how things might have been different.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
